Caring for Dementia
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a virtual care session?
Caring for Dementia’s virtual care sessions offer personalized support with a behaviour specialist. We use the Google Meet platform, ensuring confidentiality. Our sessions provide tailored strategies, fostering further understanding and effective management of responsive behaviours for individuals with dementia.
How can we help?
Caring for Dementia provides a thorough plan aimed at mitigating responsive behaviours. Our team utilizes behaviour management tools and observation skills to discern the underlying meaning behind behaviours. When proposing care strategies, we offer informed and evidence-based recommendations.
What’s a behaviour?
Responsive behaviours, characterized as reactions to either internal or external unpleasant stimuli, are thoroughly understood by our behaviour support specialists. Their extensive knowledge enables a distinctive understanding of the underlying meanings associated with specific responsive behaviours.
How does a session work?
We use detailed forms and assessments to grasp the goals of both our clients and caregivers. Our dedicated staff then design an individualized plan aimed at mitigating and effectively managing responsive behaviours. In our virtual sessions, we will clarify and demonstrate the implementation of care techniques and strategies.
What types of behaviours?
Our expertise encompasses the management of diverse dual diagnosis and dementia-related responsive behaviours, including but not limited to physically aggressive and threatening behaviours, exit-seeking and pacing, socially inappropriate behaviours, and challenges related to bathing, toileting, and eating.
What is a dual diagnosis?
A dual diagnosis occurs when an individual is diagnosed with dementia alongside another medical condition. Our support specialists bring significant experience in assisting individuals with dual diagnoses such as dementia/bipolar, dementia/schizophrenia, dementia/Parkinson’s, dementia/stroke, dementia/Korsakoff, and dementia with physical disabilities.
What types of assessments?
In our complimentary consultation, a behaviour specialist will guide you through the process of completing our 3-day behaviour tracking tool. This tool allows us to follow patterns and trends in responsive behaviours. Depending on our clients’ needs, additional assessments may be introduced to further tailor our approach.
What is a session debrief plan?
Upon completion of demonstrating and coaching the recommended care techniques, a session debrief plan will be promptly emailed to you within two (2) business days of the concluded session. This detailed plan will encompass information on all recommendations discussed.
How is this confidential?
Prior to our initial session, we provide thorough documentation, inclusive of a confidentiality clause. Our virtual meeting platform, Google Meet, ensures a secure environment with end-to-end encryption and robust identity verification for both scheduled and personal room meetings.
